Jubilee English 8: Living Language The eighth grade English level course Living Language helps homeschoolers explore the use of the English language for clear self-expression. This course expands on grammar concepts and utilizes literature studies that reinforce the principles of language usage in books. Through reading, comprehension, and discussion, homeschoolers are challenged to encounter and respond to higher levels of literature. Works studied by the homeschooler in Living Language include Romeo and Juliet, The Diary of Ann Frank, Lord of the Flies, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Kidnapped. Homeschoolers will develop a comprehensive understanding of concepts such as sentence mechanics, grammar pitfalls, modifiers, restrictive and nonrestrictive clauses, description, and personal essay through the study of these works. 1: Literature: A Separate Peace / Language Arts: Nouns 2: Literature: A Separate Peace / Language Arts: Pronouns 3: Literature: A Separate Peace / Language Arts: Cases of Nouns / Pronouns 4: Literature: A Separate Peace / Language Arts: Verbs 5: Literature: A Separate Peace / Language Arts: Principal Parts 6: Literature: To Kill a Mockingbird / Language Arts: Tenses 7: Literature: To Kill a Mockingbird / Language Arts: Tenses and Agreement 8: Literature: To Kill a Mockingbird / Language Arts: Verbals 9: Literature: To Kill a Mockingbird / Language Arts: More Verbals 10: Literature:To Kill a Mockingbird / Language Arts: Dangling Participles 11: Literature: Kidnapped / Language Arts: Modifiers 12: Literature: Kidnapped / Language Arts: Clauses and Common Mistakes 13: Literature: Kidnapped / Language Arts: Restrictive and Nonrestrictive Clauses 14: Literature: Kidnapped / Language Arts: Grammar Pitfalls 15: Literature: Diary of Anne Frank / Language Arts: Sentence Mechanics 16: Literature: Diary of Anne Frank / Language Arts: Paragraph Mechanics 17: Literature: Diary of Anne Frank / Language Arts: Figures of Speech 18: Literature: April Morning / Language Arts: Kinds of Sentences 19: Literature : April Morning / Language Arts: Paragraphs 20: Literature: April Morning / Language Arts: Writing an Essay 21: Literature : The Writing of Edgar Allen Poe / Language Arts: Description of Places 22: Literature : The Writing of Edgar Allen Poe / Language Arts: Using Forceful English 23: Literature : The Pearl / Language Arts: Latin Prefixes and Roots 24: Literature: The Pearl / Language Arts: Reading Comprehension 25: Literature: The Pearl / Language Arts: Vocabulary 26: Literature: LOTF / Intro Language Arts: Outlines 27: Literature: LOTF / Language Arts: Vocabulary Unit 2 28: Literature: LOTF / Language Arts: Personal Essay 29: Literature: LOTF / Language Arts: Vocabulary Unit 3 30: Literature: LOTF / Language Arts: Short Short Stories 31: Literature: Romeo and Juliet / Language Arts: Vocabulary Unit 4 32: Literature: Romeo and Juliet / Language Arts: Poetry 33: Literature: Romeo and Juliet / Language Arts: Vocabulary Unit 5 34: Literature: Romeo and Juliet / Language Arts: Poetry II 35: Literature: Romeo and Juliet / Language Arts: Vocabulary Unit 6 36: Finishing Up! |
