What are the details of this flexible schedule?
Homeschoolers may work on their Christian coursework for 10 months of the year: September through June. As long as homeschoolers complete all their work by the end of the year, they are free to work at their own pace. The Southern Baptist Academy Christian homeschool program allows students to work on weekends or at night, given the needs of your homeschooling family.
 
What are the dates that The Southern Baptist Academy follows for the school year?
The school year began on September 5, 2007. Students are welcome to enroll at anytime during the school year
 
What if my child finishes a course early and wants to move on?
Homeschoolers are encouraged to work at their own pace. If a homeschool student finishes one of our Christian courses early, they are encouraged to move ahead to a new course. Beyond six courses, students must pay an additional $195 for extra homeschool courses.
 
At what age can my child start?
Because all children grow and learn at different rates, we leave this decision up to the parent. The average age to begin kindergarten is 5 years old. Homeschoolers over the age of 18 are not permitted to enroll in our online home education program.
 
When is course selection for 6th-12th grade?
Christian homeschool students are welcome to choose their courses during the enrollment process.
 
What about attendance… is there a specific time my child must be online each day?
The Southern Baptist Academy suggests an average of 2-4 hours per day for 6-12 graders and half that amount for elementary homeschool school students. You may “double-up” one day and take the next day off or work hard before a long vacation. Our online home education program is designed for maximum flexibility.
 
What is The Southern Baptist Academy?  How does it work?
The Southern Baptist Academy is a private, accredited online home education program. Graduating seniors will receive an official high school diploma, and all of our Christian courses are registered in the state of Texas. The Southern Baptist Academy provides all the homeschool lesson plans, portfolios, assignments, grading services, and teaching assistance from our professional Academic Counselors. Our Christian homeschool courses are available 24/7 and can be completed at the homeschooler’s own pace. As long as homeschool students complete their homeschool coursework during the 10 month period from September through June, they are free to take as much time as they need to grasp the homeschool material. The Southern Baptist Academy combines the best parts of Christian homeschooling and attendance at a Christian private school in our online home education program.

Can my child select courses from different grade levels?
Yes.  For instance, it would be perfectly acceptable for a 7th grade homeschooler to take 6th grade English and 8th grade Math, simply because these are the levels at which they are.
 
How many instruction days and hours does The Southern Baptist Academy offer?
We offer 180 days of online homeschool instruction to be completed during 300 days of 24/7 academy access, September through June.  Homeschoolers are subject to their own states home schooling attendance minimums. The Southern Baptist Academyonline home education system keeps records of all time spent online, and generates reports when needed.
 
We’re in a different time zone from the Academic Counselors. How will this work?
Many of our homeschoolers come from different time zones. If you can’t contact our teachers during our school day, you can e-mail them for instant help in the morning.
 
What is a Bible-based Christian homeschool curriculum like?
The Southern Baptist Academy believes that an education is incomplete without teaching the truth of the Holy Bible. All of our courses are thus imbued with the spiritual and intellectual truths that we glean from these sacred pages. Our homeschool Math curriculum speaks to God’s orderly Creation. Our homeschool English courses shed light on landmark works that glorify God with their quality and lasting artistic value. Our history courses chronicle man’s relationship with a God active in the events of history. We encourage Christian homeschooling parents to provide their children with opportunities to socialize with other Christian homeschoolers.  You can add this time at a co-op to the Joy Directed activities folder to get credits towards your diploma.
 
Can teachers assign field trips?  Do students get credit for participating?

How do tests and quizzes work?
The Southern Baptist Academy’s online home education program includes regular tests and quizzes throughout the year. We provide all the grading services. Many of our test questions can be graded automatically with our homeschooling software. Others are graded by our homeschooling teachers.
 
What is the study hall section?
Using the studio, homeschoolers can get credit for time spent working on offline activities. Several homeschool assignments are done away from the computer. The study hall allows homeschoolers to do just that while still receiving credit for their work.
 
Which subjects (courses, classes) are available?
We provide over 140 Christian homeschool courses in K-12, covering the core homeschool subjects of Science, History, Language Arts and Math. Homeschoolers can also choose from a wide variety of elective courses covering interesting subjects like Crime Scene Investigation and Psychology.
 
How much time should my student spend online every day?

Who writes the lesson plans?
Christian Curriculum Developers write all of our homeschool lesson plans and design the content of the coursework. These lesson plans are a suggestion and homeschooling parents are free to deviate from the plan as they see fit.
 
How long will it take to enroll my child?
You can use our online application to enroll your homeschool child within minutes! Middle and high school students will need to choose their courses, but other than that, all you need to do is fill out some information and make your first payment. We’ll ship your homeschooling materials within 2-4 days of your order.
 
Are there assignments that are not completed on the computer?
The Southern Baptist Academy provides assignments that force the child to get away from the computer for a while. Most of our homeschool assignments are completed online, but we try to mix things up with traditional textbooks, workbooks, CD-ROMs, e-books, and more.
